Keg for Mildew raises $2000 for cancer centre

Keg for Mildew 2-e_webKEG FOR A CAUSE: Family members of the late Robert ‘Mildew’ Matthews, from left, Gerard Matthews, Sarah Scully, Lisa Matthews, Leah Askew and Brenton Askew, celebrate a successful fundraising night in his honour.
Laharum Football Netball Club hosted a ‘Keg for Mildew’ event following the Demons’ round-11 Horsham District league clash against Noradjuha-Quantong on Saturday.
Matthews’ family will donate more than $2000 to the Rachael’s Wish fundraising appeal for the new Wimmera Cancer Centre.
Matthews, a Laharum life member who chalked up 318 games for the Demons, lost his battle with cancer in December last year.
His daughter Leah Askew thanked everyone who donated to the important cause in her father’s honour.
“We were thrilled to raise so much money for Rachael’s Wish,” she said. “Our family would like to thank everyone who supported the night and made a donation.
“It was great to see so many Noradjuha-Quantong members stick around as well, including a lot who were friends with Dad.”
