Winning Edenhope-Apsley faces next challenge in Horsham District netball

Edenhope-Apsley has advanced its spot in the Horsham District A Grade netball pecking order with a thrilling one-goal win over Kalkee.
But the Saints, who are now in third and have relegated the Kees to fifth, face an even bigger challenge this week against inform reigning premier Natimuk United.
The Saints claimed an early three-goal lead by quarter time, but it was the Kees who led by two goals at the long break.
The Kees were up by a goal at the final change but the Saints managed to battle it out for the narrowest of wins, 34-33.
The game came down to a strong battle between Kalkee goalies Jenna Bywaters and Tamara Exell and Edenhope-Apsley defenders Alex Lang and Cynthia Watt.
Both combinations have been outstanding and spectators would have been treated to a thrilling display.
The Saints will need to maintain their defensive pressure against the Ewes, with Shannon Couch and Amy Pilgrim sharing shooting responsibilities in their side’s 25-goal win over Rupanyup.
The Ewes and Saints should enjoy a good tussle in the midcourt but Natimuk United’s strong defensive combinations will put plenty of pressure on shooter Krystal Schapel, the Saints’ primary avenue to goal.
The Kees will be out for redemption against Harrow-Balmoral, which is now fourth following a comprehensive 45-goal victory over Taylors Lake.
Kalkee will have its work cut out for it against a Southern Roos outfit starting to hit its straps at the right time of the season.
Both are on equal points but Harrow-Balmoral has a superior percentage, aided by the return of Amy Lewis to the ring this season. Lewis accumulated 49 goals last week and brings a strong and calming presence to a young attack end.
Defender Ebonie Salter, best against the Lakers, will put plenty of pressure on Kalkee’s shooters. They will need to be accurate to be in with a chance, while the side’s midcourters will need to treasure possession to avoid intercepts by tall Roos centre Megan Russell. Taylors Lake had midcourters Jorrdan Weir and Ella Slorach in good touch last week and they will enjoy a week’s rest with the bye.
Swifts enjoyed an all-the-way win over Pimpinio, with goalies Jade Ralph and Michaela Armer again in form, sharing a 66-goal haul.
Swifts will need to take the same intensity into their clash with Rupanyup. The Panthers have some talented players and fight hard for the ball, so it should be a good contest.
The Baggies defenders will need to focus their attention on shutting down shooter Blair Burke, who snags the majority of the Panthers’ goals.
Rupanyup was outmatched by Natimuk United but will see this week’s clash as a winnable one despite ladder positions.
Sadie Slorach played a smart game in the midcourt against the Ewes, while Kayla Woods was strong in defence.
Pimpinio will look to upset Noradjuha-Quantong’s slim finals hopes at Quantong.
The sides fielded different line-ups when they met in round three and this could be a close one. The Bombers will hope to win the game in the midcourt. A strong defensive effort got the Bombers over the line against Jeparit-Rainbow.
Defence is also the Storm’s strength and its defenders will find the going tough against Laharum, which will continue its undefeated run after a week off with a bye.
Round-12 results: Noradjuha-Quantong d Jeparit-Rainbow 39-27, Swifts d Pimpinio 66-47, Natimuk United d Rupanyup 60-35, Edenhope-Apsley d Kalkee 34-22, Harrow-Balmoral d Taylors Lake 64-19.
