Proceeds from a performance at Horsham Performing Arts Centre’s Heritage Hall later this year will go towards the restoration of a kiosk at Green Lake near Horsham.
North West Grampians Lions branch will present His Mother’s Son – The story of Ellen Kelly at 1.30pm on October 8.
The event will also be after a launch of Seniors Week activities.
Christine Middleton’s His Mother’s Son is a drama and tribute to the mother of Ned Kelly and pioneering bush women who helped shape Australia with their ‘vision, courage, tragedies, devotion, hard work and resilience’.
Middleton is a harpist, storyteller and writer of historical plays.
Matisse Schubert will accompany her on violin, tin whistle mandolin, button accordion and guitar during the performance.
The kiosk building at Green Lake, a popular part of the lake’s attraction in the past, has been closed for many years.
Horsham Lions Club built the kiosk in 1967, a project that member Tom Varley was a strong advocate for.
Project leaders will use money from Horsham Sports and Community Club and Lions International to connect power, create all-abilities access, build new cupboards and benches and buy fridges. Volunteers will also paint the building.
The show will cost $20 and organisers are encouraging people to book early.
The Heritage Hall – Flat Floor venue is the original Horsham Town Hall interior space.
People seeking tickets can call 5382 9555 or visit website www.horshamtownhall.com.au.
