Reigning Central Wimmera Tennis Association pennant premier St Michaels got its title defense off to a flying start on Saturday with a win against grand final opponent Drung South.
The Saints made a powerful statement with an 11-sets-to-three victory, dominating the singles rubbers after splitting the first four doubles rubbers.
Saint Jess McDonald was particularly impressive in her singles set against Romi Miller, winning 8-0. Horsham Lawn and Kalkee had the closest contest of the round, with Lawn triumphing nine sets to five.
Kalkee was behind after the first four doubles sets but fought gamely for the rest of the day.
Haven got its season underway with a 10-4, 100-70 triumph over Telangatuk East.
