LETTER | Well said on ‘rail waste’

SIR, – In response to Peter Janetzki’s letter in The Weekly Advertiser, November 21, about ‘Rail Waste’ I say well done!
I agree that a two-car velocity passenger train should operate in the Wimmera – for a start from Dimboola, the original depot – to Ararat and stabled in a holding yard for a return journey, akin to the times the ‘Peanut’ operated in by-gone days.
I, with my family, live in Ararat, and our passenger train service was shut down for a period, then reintroduced.
Recently another service was added to and from Melbourne, thus making it four services Monday to Friday.
People prefer train travel to buses. The time-tabling would be no trouble because, after all, The Overland passenger train runs regularly in both directions from Melbourne to Adelaide.
I am an ex driver, depot foreman-locomotive inspector and have worked between Melbourne, Ararat and Serviceton.
Well done Peter.
