Hindmarsh Shire Youth Council has organised a program to stop mobile phones ending up in landfill.
The council has set up a ‘Mobile Muster’ collection point at the shire’s Nhill council office.
Mobile Muster is a free mobile phone recycling program in Australia, funded by handset manufacturers and network carriers.
The program accepts all brands of mobile phones, batteries, chargers and accessories, which are then recycled.
Hindmarsh Shire Youth Council believes it is much better for people to recycle their electronic waste than letting it go to landfill.
People living outside of Nhill are invited to drop their e-waste off at the nearest council customer service centre.
The Hindmarsh Shire Youth Council is made up of students between the ages of 12 and 18 in Hindmarsh, with an interest in community issues and leadership.
The youth council meets with Hindmarsh Shire councillors and attends council meetings.
From July this year, there will be a ban on e-waste going into landfill.
People wanting to make use of the mobile muster collection point can visit Hindmarsh Shire’s Nhill office at 92 Nelson Street.
