Horsham basketball star Mitch Creek will finish the NBA season with the Minnesota Timberwolves after signing a new contract with the team today.
Creek made his NBA debut with the Brooklyn Nets in January, appearing in four games during the course of two 10-day contracts.
He signed another 10-day contract with Minnesota on March 30 after Brooklyn declined to offer him a permanent roster spot.
Creek’s new deal with Minnesota was set to expire before the end of the season but the Timberwolves announced this morning they would sign him for their final two games.
Creek reaped immediate dividends from the signing, making his Timberwolves debut today.
He recorded six points, two rebounds, one assist and one steal in 12 minutes off the bench in a 120-100 loss to the Toronto Raptors.
Creek is also likely to play in Minnesota’s final game of the season against the Denver Nuggets tomorrow, with the Timberwolves eliminated from play-off contention and testing some of their lesser-used bench players.
Creek posted on social media about the signing, saying he was thrilled to be given another opportunity in the NBA.
“Took a chance on myself 10 months ago and this morning officially signed to an NBA roster with the Timberwolves,” he said.
“The world’s your oyster.”
According to website Spotrac, which documents the contracts of athletes in major American professional sports, Creek has earned a total of $142,113 US from his three previous 10-day contracts, or about $200,000 Australian.
It is unclear if Minnesota will attempt to retain Creek for next season, which will begin in October.
Creek signed a two-year contract with new Australian NBL team South East Melbourne Phoenix in December, but his contract includes an NBA out-clause.
