One of Australia’s most famous gardens will be open to the public this weekend. Cruden Farm, the lifetime achievement of national treasure Dame Elisabeth Murdoch, will be open this Sunday to launch the new season of Australia’s Open Garden Scheme. Victorian co-ordinator Cassie Johnstone said Cruden Farm, at Langwarrin near Frankston, was the scheme’s most asked about garden. “I take phone calls about it every day of the year from all over the state and country,” she said. Dame Elisabeth Murdoch, pictured with long-time gardener Michael Morrison, came to Cruden Farm as a young bride more than 80 years ago and designed and planted the renowned herbaceous borders, picking garden, shrub walks and tree-shaded lawns at the heart of her garden. Cruden Farm will be open from 10am to 4.30pm. Entry is adults $12, children under 18 free.
