Young author lines up for new fishing book

Callawadda youngster William Phillips, 11, is inviting people young and old to help him celebrate the launch of his book Fishing For Kids. William, who wrote his book as a project for his reading tutor, will launch his publication at Stawell’s Cato Lake on Sunday. “I showed a friend of Dad’s who said I could probably get it published. I had to do some small changes and all my own drawings because of copyright but that’s all,” William said. William learned to fish from family friend Bill Templar, who gave him his first fishing rod when he was two. He took on the writing project after failing to find a basic book on how to fish. William’s favourite places to fish are Port Fairy and ‘anywhere on the Murray River’. And he’s not finished with his projects yet. William is planning to write a book on sheepdog training and hopes to accompany it with an instructional DVD. “Fishing and training are two of my favourite things to do so it would be good to write books for other kids about both of them,” he said. William thanked his father, as well as Bill Templar, Ian Davies, Alex Podolinsky and Shane Young for their support in getting his book published.
