Ararat’s John McGrath won selection as one of 72 Australia-wide blade shearers to participate in a historical North Tuppal Station Shearing re-enactment. John, pictured sharpening his shears in preparation for the event, will be part of a display of blade shearers as they show off their skills on 144 rams. Along with the 144 rams, mechanical shears will be used on a further 5000 sheep on June 4 and 5 in an effort to promote public awareness of the history of the Australian wool and sheep industry. The event, run by Sports Shear Australia Association, is one that brings great excitement for John. “I am very pleased to be a part of it and to find 72 blade shearers from across the country is a huge effort,” he said. “It will be a great buzz to participate in something that happened 100 years ago.”
