Wimmera volunteers are hitting the books to gain up-to-date knowledge for this year’s Australian Tax Office Tax Help program. The four-month program is a free and confidential service designed to help low-income earners complete their tax returns by the October 31 deadline. ATO Melbourne client services manager Phil Dipierro said volunteers were needed to help deliver the program acrosss the Wimmera in 2011. “There are no set requirements to be a Tax Help volunteer, just the will to help people,” Mr Dipierro said. “It’s most suited to ex-accountants and accounting students looking for some real world experience and help with their people skills, but anyone can take part.” Mr Dipierro said anyone willing to be a Tax Help volunteer could apply through the ATO website www.ato.gov.au.
