Horsham police and community groups will combat the theft of car-registration plates by continuing Operation Safe Plate throughout the year.
Sergeant Rod Hiam said a Saturday morning community session to install security screws on number plates had been a success. Plans for a similar session in November were already in place.
"The use of security screws makes number-plates theft more difficult and this simple community changeover service is an effective deterrent," Sgt Hiam said.
Police officers and representatives from Neighbourhood Watch and Natimuk and District Field and Game Club provided the service free of charge at Daryl Robertson Auto Electrical in Horsham.
