Kerrie continues fight

Stawell resident Kerrie Skene has been hand-picked by Breast Cancer Network Australia to become a ‘champion’ for Wimmera families touched by breast cancer. The Stawell Breast Cancer Support Group member was among a select group of rural and regional breast cancer survivors chosen by the network to hone their community support skills. Kerrie, currently facing her third battle with the illness, took part in a ‘Pink Lady boot camp’ in Melbourne to learn ideas and skills to help spread the word about breast cancer. She said the two-day training program was designed to help individual women work effectively with local communities, fostering greater awareness of breast cancer and how it affected women and families. “It gave me plenty of great ideas and skills to use to spread the word about breast cancer and how to use my journey to help support other women in the region,” Kerrie said. “Public speaking was part of the training, which I was a bit nervous about, but I guess if anyone wants to hear my story I’m now in a better position to tell them all about it,” she said.
