SIR, – We write in regards to a proposed merger between Wimmera Health Care Group and Ballarat Health Services.
We feel a merger will not bring about what Wimmera health services really do need – to plan for a new larger Wimmera Base Hospital fitted with latest technology designed to comply with COVID-safe regulations and to provide for all Wimmera and southern Mallee regional communities.
This would relieve the pressure from Ballarat Health Services and save people from Horsham and surrounding districts from having to travel the Western Highway, classified as the most dangerous highway in Victoria.
The community needs to begin fund-raising and lobbying state and federal governments for grants to make this happen.
