Libraries across the state are promoting free activities and sessions for people of all ages, including at-home reading challenges and in-house activities.

The Premiers’ Reading Challenge, for children from birth to year-10, this year has the theme ‘Stories to discover. Stories to tell.’. 

Since 2005, more than 4.7 million people have read more than 66 million books during the free challenge.

Participants will receive a certificate signed by current and former state premiers.

The Warm Winter Read program encourages readers aged 16 years and older to develop long-lasting reading habits and prioritise reading during winter.

From June 1 until August 31, participants can track their reading habits, rate and review books, and be eligible for prizes including book bundles and a Kobo e-reader.

People can join the Warm Winter Read program at readbooks.com.au/wwr, or visit Hindmarsh Shire Libraries located in Nhill, Dimboola, Rainbow and Jeparit.

Edenhope Library staff are seeking a volunteer or two to help launch a new book club, which would meet monthly at the library.

An hour’s silent reading would be followed by a discussion of the book and a cuppa.
