Backing for Edenhope fishing contest

Edenhope Fishing Contest next month has attracted strong backing from Member for Lowan and former Edenhope district resident Emma Kealy.

Ms Kealy has encouraged anglers and their families from across Victoria to get behind the third annual contest during the Melbourne Cup weekend.

Ms Kealy said major events such as the contest were critical to the region, attracting visitors from far afield and providing major economic benefits to businesses and the broader community.

She said Edenhope’s angling club originally launched the competition to celebrate the return of water to the town’s Lake Wallace after many years of drought.

“The organising committee, which comprises mostly young mothers from across the area, has done a magnificent job in sourcing competition prizes that every angler would want to hook,” she said.

“First prize in the adult section is $5000 cash, with the winner of the junior section taking home a brand new kayak.

“There is free camping available around Lake Wallace and food and entertainment will be available all weekend.

“I encourage everyone to come along to Edenhope on November 2 and 3 for a fantastic weekend for the whole family.”
