Brian Winfield has grown a crop of over 300 pumpkins on his Lower Norton property.

BUTTERING UP: Pumpkin-growing enthusiast Brian Winfield of Lower Norton shows off some of his produce he has grown and sold.

Brian has been growing pumpkins at Lower Norton, west of Horsham, for 11 years.

This year he had seven varieties and an overall crop of about 300. He said he enjoyed his hobby because pumpkins were easy to grow.

“I put them in, let them grow and pick them after three frosts,” he said.

And his tip to grow the best pumpkins? “Making sure they have plenty of manure under them. They also like a lot of water and I like to use Seasol for fertiliser,” he said. Picture: PAUL CARRACHER
