Horsham Agricultural Society is launching a new community initiative during the school holidays as part of its 150th anniversary celebrations.

‘Chores for a Cause’ invites families to go behind the scenes at the Maydale Reserve, Horsham Showgrounds and take part in a hands-on morning next Wednesday, July 8, to help prepare the grounds, feed animals and paint a mural for the Horsham Show.

The program will involve families working alongside volunteers to complete simple tasks across the showgrounds, while also learning what goes into staging Horsham’s longest-running community event. 

Participants will also have an opportunity to explore the show schedule and choose competitions to enter in this year’s show, which will be on September 26-27.

The morning will conclude with a sausage sizzle and toasted marshmallows around a campfire.

Horsham Show secretary Andrea Cross said the initiative was about more than just preparing the grounds.

“Chores for a Cause is about connecting families with the volunteers who make the Horsham Show possible,” she said. 

“We want people to see the effort, the teamwork and the community spirit that sits behind the event and hopefully inspire the next generation of exhibitors and volunteers.”

Places are limited to 20 families, and bookings are now open.  If demand exceeds expectations further dates will be set.
