Horsham College’s ‘Frozen’ cast will take to the stage in a host of hand-made, donated and upcycled costumes in its August shows.

Performing arts teacher and director Emily Friedrichsen said the cast of 45 each had five costumes, which had been crafted by a team of seven people – including her six-year-old daughter and four-year-old son.

“Every costume is brand new, and has either been donated, the fabric donated, or it’s upcycled,” she said.

“My girlfriend from Beaufort has made all the bodices for the ball gowns, Claire Petering has made over 75 circle skirts, Millie Henley has donated her time for the puppets, and all the fabrics have been donated by Tracy Reid.

“I had about 10 girlfriends buying doilies when they went to op shops; they have all been hand-dyed and put together.

“I had students in textiles who offered to sew them when they finished their assessments – it’s just been a massive team effort, I’m so proud.”

Friedrichsen said more than half the tickets for the four August shows had already been sold.

“There’s just so much involved, and when you can be this prepared so far out, it’s just amazing,” she said.

“It’s very overwhelming to see it all come together, and seeing what you can do with upcycling and recycling, everybody just looks incredible.” 

Shows are 7pm on Thursday, August 20, 7pm Friday, August 21, and 11am and 7pm Saturday, August 22. Tickets are available from Horsham Town Hall website and box office.
