Goolum Goolum Aboriginal Cooperation is hosting its annual pathways expo in Horsham tomorrow for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander secondary school students.
A variety of trades and service providers give students the opportunity to learn more about careers, paired with education support, scholarships, traineeships and pathways into chosen fields.
Goolum Goolum general manager Johnny Gorton said the expo was a key opportunity in the organisation's event calendar for young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
“It provides education, employment and networking opportunities all under one roof for local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students,” he said.
“It’s a chance to expose students in our community to further education and employment opportunities.
“We know if we don’t have these kinds of events, students might miss the opportunity to pursue pathways available to them into successful careers, training or further education.”
Mr Gorton said the event would also focus on applied learning, hands-on scenarios and insight into university life.
“We can expect tradespeople demonstrating skills such as plastering and bricklaying, as well as police, fire and ambulance services providing demonstrations," he said.
