Excitement for next month’s reunion of the former Netherby-Lorquon Football Club is growing, with a set of historic jumpers and other memorabilia set to form a comprehensive display.

Among the items on display at the August 29 reunion at Netherby Hall will be a series of jumpers from different periods of the club’s history.

A jumper worn by former player Ian Bone showcases the club’s colours from 1962 – the first season after Netherby and Lorquon amalgamated – to 1967.

A jumper belonging to former player Graham Launer, with vertical red, white and black panels in the style of St Kilda, shows the club’s playing colours thereafter.

A pre-merger jumper belonging to Errol Watson shows the former Netherby colours – black and white vertical stripes, in the style of Collingwood.

Reunion organiser John Rethus said he and other committee members were shocked by the amount of memorabilia donated for the event.

“The biggest surprise is the amount of memorabilia that has been handed to the committee,” he said.

“A 72-page book of the history of the club has been published and will be for sale at the reunion and after the event.”

Mr Rethus said registrations for the reunion had been strong.

“A good crowd is guaranteed as many have registered already,” he said.

“Richie Dodds will be the MC for the official program, with footballers and netballers from both Netherby and Lorquon as far back as 1951 registered for the event.

“A first-class meal is organised and a marquee will be put up beside the hall, so room will not be a problem.”
