Natimuk field and game shoot for a cause

Natimuk and District Field and Game Club members are raising money for Wimmera Cancer Centre with their inaugural ‘Cancer Shoot’.

Natimuk Field and Game committee member Bart Turgoose said members often shared stories about people they knew with cancer, and it was from there the idea of the competition grew.

“The Wimmera has some of the highest rates of cancer and the committee talked about doing something about that,” he said.

“So, we are hosting a shoot day and auction, with 100 percent of the profits going towards the Wimmera centre.”

Entry for the Sunday shoot is $40 a person. The online auction started on Monday and ends on Saturday.

Mr Turgoose said there was donations worth more than $70,000 for the auction and prizes for the day.

“The auction is open to anyone, and we have some items exclusively for auction on the day of the shoot,” he said.

“We encourage people to come along and have a great day. You don’t have to shoot. Come and support us by buying merchandise, grabbing a coffee or bidding on an item.

“There’s something for everyone, from 28 tonnes of fertiliser to seven days of accommodation in Port Douglas including flights.”

The online auction is accessible at the Auctions Plus link on the club’s Facebook Page.

“We want people in this community to see the money used locally when a loved one battles cancer,” Mr Turgoose said.
