Table tennis champions from across western Victoria and South Australia gathered in Horsham at the weekend for the return of a long-running tournament following the easing of COVID restrictions.

Table-tennis players of Horsham, Hamilton, Warrnambool and Mt Gambier competed in the annual shield tournament for the first event in nearly three years.

There was a strong showing from Horsham Table Tennis Association players in each division, with Horsham’s men’s and women’s team finishing third, while its junior boys team finished second behind Hamilton.

The tournament, an annual event between top-division table tennis players in each of the four regions, was first hosted in 1964, and last hosted by Warrnambool Table Tennis Association. Horsham previously hosted the event in 2018.
