Pink ladies in cancer tribute

More than 100 ‘pink lady silhouettes’ will be on display at Horsham Civic Centre courtyard on October 14 to support women and families affected by breast cancer.

The display is one of Breast Cancer Network Australia’s Mini-Field of Women events to provide an opportunity for communities to gather to pay tribute to all affected by the disease.

The network’s Horsham mini-field organiser and breast-cancer survivor Marcia Carrick from Horsham Friends Abreast said it was important to recognise the impact of breast cancer.

“It’s not only the women diagnosed, but all those around her,” she said.

“Each time a woman hears she has breast cancer, those around her in the community are also affected. Support for women diagnosed as well as their families and loved ones is an important issue in our local community.”

Network chief executive Christine Nolan said mini-field events were a powerful way to remind people diagnosed with breast cancer that they were not alone in their journey.

“This year more than 300 Mini-Field of Women events are being held in local communities across Australia. These events are a great way to link people affected by breast cancer with their communities to help them feel supported.

“We hope people participating will find the event moving and enjoy it as a celebration of life.” “Although breast-cancer care and knowledge has come a long way, women are still being diagnosed every day who need our support.

“I invite the whole community to join us, and to take the opportunity to leave a personal message of support on a Pink Lady silhouette.”

Support activities in the courtyard will start at 11am.
