Questions to Horsham community over City to River plan

Here is a condensed version of Mr Davies’ questions to the Horsham community about the conceptual City to River Masterplan for Horsham.

Article continues below

·Remodeling of city block

Are you aware the plan calls for remodeling of the block between Urquhart, Firebrace, McLachlan streets and Roberts Avenue? Would you be prepared to support this proposal without knowing a community cost?

·Parking in Central Activities District

Are you aware of the proposal to remove main-street marking or to replace angle with parallel parking?

·Propose new housing estates

Are you aware the area between Betta Electrical and Harvey Norman stores and Horsham Botanic Gardens to the west of Firebrace Street and a council depot and concrete yards are proposed to become housing estates?

·Removal of sport and community groups

Do you agree with a concept to replace Horsham lawn tennis courts with an artificial lake, croquet lawns with gardens and a mini railway with a summer water park?

·Horsham City Oval

Are you aware that changing the orientation of Horsham City Oval involves a 20 percent reduction in the length of the oval, has deep soil-moisture challenges and dramatically changes circumstances including parking for major events?

·Multi-purpose sports centre

Are you aware of my concerns as an engineer about soil-moisture conditions and facilities being proposed for the Horsham showground site?

·Horsham showgrounds

Are you comfortable that parts of the showgrounds, proposed for major sporting development, are in flood-prone areas, which affect soil-moisture conditions? Are you also aware of issues surrounding a proposed closure of McBryde Street?

·Northwest Horsham option

One suggestion to solve many problems associated with soil moisture, traffic access, future sports-facility expansion and open-space development would be to open up a new area in Horsham’s northwest. Do you agree the council should have an in-depth study into this proposal?

·School presentations

Do you agree with the council presenting the project to primary schools and asking children to fill out a questionnaire?

·Timing

Considering this plan has been promoted only as conceptual, do you feel it is acceptable to expect meaningful community response?

·Costing and rates

Would you agree with giving the council the go-ahead to allocate rates to pursue major items included in the plan?
