Horsham Inspector Di Thomson presented Leading Sen Const McLennan with the coin.
Leading Sen Const McLennan said in receiving the accolade that there had been many changes since she started with the force.
“There are more possibilities for women to have families now. Back then you were expected to work as a man and there was no part-time,” she said.
Leading Sen Const McLennan is a youth resource officer and part of a Proactive Policing Unit and neighbourhood policing units.
She said her work focused on getting children away from the criminal-justice system and building strong community connections.
“Building connections with the community is something I love,” she said.
Leading Sen Const McLennan said she was grateful for receiving acknowledgement for her service.
“I feel humbled and thankful for receiving the coin,” she said.
Superintendent Ian Milner said Horsham district police held Leading Sen Const McLennan in high regard.
“She has done a great job and is well valued,” he said.
“Being in the police force for 40 years is hard, especially as a woman.”
