Sheep survival workshops

Farmers keen to improve ewe performance and lamb survival can attend Agriculture Victoria  workshops at Avoca and Edenhope next week.

The workshops, free of charge and funded through BestWool-BestLamb and Australian Wool Innovation, will feature presentations from sheep specialists Dr Robert Suter and Tim Leeming.

The speakers will discuss how ewe-management plans can lead to better lamb survival.

Dr Suter, Agriculture Victoria’s senior veterinary officer, will discuss the symptoms, management and prevention of metabolic disorders such as hypocalcaemia, pregnancy toxaemia and acidosis.

He will share his 40 years of experience in sheep health.

Mr Leeming is a farmer and consultant who with his wife Georgie run a self-replacing prime-lamb flock and seed-stock business, weaning more than 10,000 lambs annually.

The Leemings have participated in many industry trials including a maternal ewe project.

The workshops, from 10am to 2pm, will be at Avoca Community Centre on Monday and Edenhope Football Netball Club on Tuesday. People can register online at www.eventbrite.com.au/o/agriculture-victoria-11335009512.
