Willaura Farm to Pub on this weekend

Saturday will see the popular Willaura Farm to Pub running, riding and walking event return for an 18th time.

The Willaura Farm to Pub made a comeback last year to much fanfare after a three-year hiatus induced by the COVID-19 pandemic from 2021 to 2023.

More than 120 entrants and 50 volunteers participated in last year’s event – numbers that organisers are hoping to match this weekend.

All profits from this year’s event will go to One Red Tree Resource Centre, supporting mental health training and raising mental health awareness in rural communities. The event raised more than $2000 for One Red Tree last year.

Walk-up entries will open at 2.30pm on Saturday at Willaura Recreation Reserve, with entries for a 16-kilometre run and ride closing at 3.45pm, entries for an 8km run or ride closing at 4.15pm and entries for a 5km walk, run or ride closing at 4.45pm.

The 16km and 8km events are along a ‘Sandy Lane’ off-road course, while the 5km course is along the sealed Yarram Gap Road.

The road will not be closed to traffic, with entrants encouraged to give way to vehicles, obey road signs and be careful at crossings.

A bus will ferry entrants from the recreation reserve to the starting points, with the bus for the 16km event departing at 4pm, the 8km event at 4.30pm and the 5km event at 5pm.

Organisers said bikes needed to be delivered to the starting line prior to riders mustering at the recreation reserve to receive their bibs, with riders discouraged from riding more than two abreast.

Runners and walkers should walk on the right side of the road, including at the finish line.

Organisers have also added a swimming event at Willaura Memorial Pool, with children racing two laps and adults racing a 20-lap relay in teams.

Participants and spectators alike are also welcome to cool off in the pool, which will be open from 1pm to 7pm.

The recreation reserve clubrooms will be open from 2.30pm, with a barbecue scheduled from 5pm.

Entry is free for children aged 12 years and under, with $10 entry for 13 to 18 year-olds, and $15 for adults, with the winners to receive a dinner at Mount William Station.
