Petering was a deserving recipient of the Greg Binns Medal as the game’s best player but had stiff competition in the form of Tim Mackenzie.
The backman was supreme in the second half, intercepting numerous Giants kicks and hitting targets on the rebound.
Up forward the Burras shared the goal-kicking load, with only Brayden Ison and Jason Matthews kicking more than one major.
With only eight points separating the sides at the final change it was anyone’s game, but the Burras, benefitting from a week off, finished with run in their legs to win 9.14 (68) to 6.7 (43).
The win sparked jubilation from a strong Burras crowd, many of whom mingled with the players on the oval after the final siren.
For the Giants it was a tough ending to what had been a terrific season.
Southern Mallee ruckman Reece McNally was one of the best players on the field, with Tyler Lehmann using his big frame to advantage in the wet conditions and Sam White playing strongly across half back.
But it was not enough, as the Giants recorded their second straight grand final loss since joining the Wimmera Football League prior to the 2018 season.
